This procedure allows you to change
the shape and balance of the face using implants to correct the
projection of the chin, the cheeks, etc.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT ?
The facial implants are frequently used by plastic surgeons to balance
the profiles of the face, usually in combination with other cosmetic
surgeries. For example rhinoplasty in patients with poor
chin projection
allowing balancing the harmony of the profile, or facial lifting
procedures to highlight the appearance of
cheekbones and give a more youthful appearance.
WHAT MIGHT BE THE COMPLICATIONS?
The facial implants have a low level of complications, among
the most common are:
Misplacement: the implant can move from its
original location and may require
a review surgery if this defect
is notorious.
Infection: it can occur in any surgery. It is treated with antibiotics
and if not resolved it may be necessary to temporarily remove the
implant.
The implants are made of rubber-like silicone.
There is no scientific evidence that this type of implants are somehow
harmful to the body. These implants do not,
generally, need to be replaced.

THE
SURGERY
Chin implant
The placement of a chin implant may take approximately 30 minutes.
During the procedure a small pocket is done
accessing either through the skin below the chin
or inside the mouth, according to the particular case. In this pocket is
placed a solid silicone implant size suitable for the desired correction
and then closed with
delicate stitches and immobilized for a few days
with microporous tape to minimize swelling.
Malar implants
The placement of malar implants are either a
single procedure or as a complement to a lifting facial. The approach
routes for placement are usually two: via lower eyelid or the
same lifting approach. During the
procedure a small pocket is done
over the cheekbone (malar bone). In this
pocket is placed a solid silicone implant the size and shape appropriate
and the closed with
delicate stitches.
AFTER SURGERY
Chin implant
You may experience some discomfort and swelling in the area for a few
days, also some difficulty to smile. Some bruises
or ecchymosis can be visible in the area of the chin or neck for a few
days. If the implant is placed through submental
approach the stitches will be removed a week and
if placed by intraoral approach the sutures
will reabsorb in two to three weeks.
Malar implants
If this is the only procedure you will see a
moderate swelling in the area and probably some minor bruising.
If made during a
facelift, will be most unnoticed concealed by
inflammation of the main operation.
